Gemma Ruting Close-up

Work by Gemma Ruting

In creating my body of work, I aimed to encapsulate the magnetism of small details as well as the impetus for speculation they effuse. By taking close-up photos of everyday objects around my house and selectively drawing them, I hoped to capture the ability of magnification to subvert the obvious. My artwork has ultimately emerged through this process as a reflection on my idiosyncratic perspective of everyday situations. Although the adjustment to ink as a drawing medium proved a challenge requiring much tenacity, I am pleased with the level of technical skill I was able to develop.
