I have three living grandparents. I was inspired by my analysis of Gregory Crewdson’s work to incorporate them into my body of work. What developed was not only a comment on suburban isolation but the loneliness that the elderly in our society can experience. The environments represent a sense of the austerity and frugality in the way they live, a conditioning from their past. They exist one day to the next, making the best of what remains while recollecting what has occurred in the past. Some images convey a sense of optimism while others reflect resignation.
