Nicola Ellis Everything is broken up and dances
My artwork is about the vulnerability and fragility of humans when they are stripped bare and have nothing to hide behind. I became interested in this after realising that at some point every person, no matter how powerful or strong, has felt weak and afraid. The sewing acts as an attempt to put ourselves back together, but the figures are still left disjointed and broken. The similarity of all these figures portrays that when we are stripped of uniqueness, it leaves us all the same – human, vulnerable and raw.
