Lucy Guan Adrift (floating free)

I was drawn to express my personal experiences through self-portraiture. My type 1 diabetes diagnosis is an almost constant presence in my life. The water provides me with a freedom and serenity I get in no other way. It is the only time I am free from being attached to the insulin pump that keeps me well. For these all too brief moments I am able to detach and forget about my condition and the daily struggles that come with it.
