Anna Decombes Muse
In an age of disposable digital images I honour the timeless beauty and unique characteristics of wet plate collodion photography, where the complex process is integral to the development of each image, making it unique. I juxtapose myself, a modern subject, with equipment and techniques developed during the Victorian era. Each individual photograph has been handcrafted, shot with an adapted Hasselblad camera. Creating a single image is lengthy and yet urgent, as the image has to be taken before the chemicals dry on the plate. The second panel of ‘imperfect’ images displays the processes of chemistry and composition, and represents how artmaking is an explorative process.
