Alexis Nojin One quarter, three quarters, whole
My body of work represents a window that peers into a whimsical childhood. Three-quarters of the window is Russian, with the multi-layered matryoshka doll from my shelf, the onion palaces of a treasured dollhouse, the samovar that served hot tea and the fairy tales spoken and read. One quarter of the window is Dutch, with windmills from my garden and clogs worn to collect the mail. The tulips, chamomile and wattle intertwine throughout to express the combination of influences that makes me who I am. This multicultural legacy frames the middle – my identity as an Australian.
