In the Frame: Judy Watson In conversation with Daniel Browning on landscape, language and memory

Hear artist Judy Watson in conversation with ABC Radio National presenter Daniel Browning about the importance of connecting to and caring for our natural ecosystems.

In her new installation, clouds and undercurrents, created for The National 2021, swathes of indigo-and-ochre-dyed textiles are layered in suspension from the Art Gallery’s ceiling. This billowing canopy evokes both the open skies and the imperiled freshwater of Watson’s matrilineal Waanyi Country (threatened by mining and agriculture) and of Gadigal Country, where Watson has walked the watery tunnels of Sydney’s underground Tank Stream. Watson speaks about the process of creating this work and the potential of listening to Aboriginal knowledge of water and its connection to people and place.

The online talk is open captioned.

In the Frame is a series of lively conversations with artists and thinkers that unpacks the connections between art and the ideas, issues and events that matter most to us today. It is proudly supported by the Art Gallery Society of NSW and Macquarie University.
