Why should the significance of a thing be limited by its function? Why should canvas be only secondary to the paint that it supports? During my artmaking process, I became actively engaged in the aesthetics and emotional possibilities of my materials. The more I interacted with them, the more I discovered about their versatility - for instance, the surprising ability of the canvas to imitate the surfaces of marble and dried clay. Any imperfections or traces from past mark-making on my materials became pleasurable to behold as they contribute to the history invested in these objects.
