Have you considered a teaching session for drawing or art theory in a stimulating space away from your college?

The Brett Whiteley Studio provides a unique space where students can gain a personal insight into Australian lyrical expressionist painter, Brett Whiteley. Displays of the artist's sketchbooks, materials, personal memorabilia and music reveal his inspirations and illustrate his art practice.



GENERAL DISCUSSION TOURS
Thursdays and Fridays 1.5 hours

BOOKINGS & PREPAYMENT ESSENTIAL
Includes practical drawing components.

General Discussion
Discover the artist and his studio and explore the works on display. "Tailor-made" discussion tours are available by special arrangement.

Case Study and Body of Work
Use Brett Whiteley as a focus for a case study discussion. Explore his body of work, art making practice and the artist's relationship to his subject, his audience and the outside world.

Framing Works
Analyze works using the syllabus frames - structural, cultural, subjective and postmodern.

Other discussion topics include:
• The debates and practices of Modernism and Postmodernism
• Curatorial Practice and the Role of an Art Museum
• Contemporary Portraiture in the Age of Digital Reproduction

COST: $150 per group of 15 or less
Maximum of 55 students. Bring VAPD.

7-12 PRACTICAL WORKSHOP TOURS
Thursdays and Fridays 2.5 hours

BOOKINGS & PREPAYMENT ESSENTIAL

Students study Whiteley's art making techniques, explore his creative processes and make art themselves (teachers too!), surrounded by the inspiration of the studio spaces.

Select a topic from the following list or discuss the possibility of a theme relating directly to your students school topics with education staff at the studio. (02 9225 1881) It is possible to organize a longer workshop to include a discussion tour (1.5 or 2.5 hrs) or perhaps a combination of themes e.g. life drawing and inspired by place. (Suitable for a larger group, so that students can swap morning and afternoon sessions).

Follow the Curve: Take a line for a walk through the Studio and engage with Whiteley`s love of the curve. Experiment with materials and techniques which Whiteley explored. Observation skills and drawing techniques will be developed through looking at Whiteley`s artworks and his unique approach to drawing.

COST: $255 per group of 15 or less
Maximum of two groups per session.
Bring VAPD.

Life Drawing: Students draw using a variety of materials in the Studio with our experienced educators. All art materials, equipment and model’s fee are included in the cost.

COST: $300 per group of 15 or less ($20 per student)
Maximum of two groups per session.
Bring VAPD.

STUDIO ZOO
Thursdays and Fridays 2 hours

A visual arts workshop bringing the curriculum alive with visits from Taronga Zoo residents. In this 2 hour workshop students look at issues of representation and self-expression by engaging with original artworks and live animals through observation and discussion. This experience provides the opportunity to experiment with different media and approaches to drawing.

COST:
K-6 (maximum 45 students)
$540 ($13 per student)
7-12 (maximum 35 students)
$630 ($18 per student)
