Learning workshop: Let’s face it Portraiture for primary and secondary students
Why is the Archibald Prize Australia's favourite art award? Who is this year's winner? Do you agree with the judges? Are there any other artists or sitters you recognise?
Since 1921, the Archibald Prize has highlighted figures from all walks of life, from famous faces to local heroes, reflecting the stories of our times. Taking inspiration from these portraits, this hands-on session allows students to experiment with materials and technique to create a portrait of their own.
Developed in collaboration with a 2024 Archibald Prize finalist and led by Art Gallery educators, this workshop encourages students to create and explore portraits in new and inspiring ways. It is designed for both primary and secondary students, with stage appropriate curriculum outcomes for making and responding.
All materials are included. The workshop does not include entry into Archibald, Wynne and Sulman Prizes 2024 and can be undertaken independently of the exhibition. However, for an enhanced learning experience, we suggest you pair the workshop with a self-guided visit to the Archibald, Wynne and Sulman Prizes 2024 exhibition.
